The SolidSim unit bundles have been extended by four additional models for size reduction:
As the crusher model which is already in the SolidSim unit
model library the ball mill model is based on Bond's law. For the ball
mill the Bond Work Index is corrected by five efficiency factors considering
the influence of open circuit milling, dry milling, the mill diameter,
the inlet particle size and the size reduction ratio.

|
Based on the material size and the cone crusher settings a
breakage probability is calculated. The fragment size distribution can
be described using breakage functions according to Vogel or Austin.
The combination od both results in a breakage matrix describing the
size reduction of the inlet material.
As for the cone crusher the breakage matrix describing the
size reduction of the inlet material is calculated from the breakage
probability and the breakage function. The breakage probability function
here considers the machine settings of a jaw crusher while the same
breakage functions can be used as for the cone crusher: Vogel or Austin.
The impact mill model has been derived as generalization of
the SolidSim Hammer Mill model. The impact velocity is not obtained
from hammer mill specific machine settings butdefined by the user.
Otherwise the same modeling approach is used. Using this model any milling
due to impact can be described, e.g. a pin mill or jet mill.
All together the are of size reduction is now covered by the more general units
Size-Reductions short-cut, Crusher and Impact Mill as well as the apparatus
specific models for Cone Crusher, Jaw Crusher, Hammer Mill, Ball Mill/Rod Mill
and Stirred Media Mill. All new models will be distributed with the regular
SolidSim updates.
