Whiten model added to screen unit
Donnerstag, 03. November 2011 um 08:08 Uhr

The Whiten function has been added to the list of separation functions that can be selected to define the grade efficiency curve. The Whiten separation function allows to consider a so called 'fish-hook' effect where for fine particle sizes the separation function first decreases.

Hydrocyclone unit extended by Nageswararao model
Donnerstag, 13. Oktober 2011 um 08:08 Uhr

With the latest updates a new model is available for the hydrocyclone unit. The empirical modeling approach suggested by Nageswararao that has been proven useful for certain applications in the mining industry can now be selected for hydrocyclone modeling. A detailed description of the new model is given is the update help files of the hydrocyclone unit.

SolidSim Case Study Analysis tool released
Montag, 22. August 2011 um 00:00 Uhr

The new SolidSim Case Study Analysis tool allows you to easily visualize the effects of process or model parameter changes on a certain target value for a given process (e.g. separation efficiency of a cyclone as function of cyclone pressure drop).

New size reduction units released
Mittwoch, 22. Juni 2011 um 00:00 Uhr

The SolidSim unit bundles have been extended by four additional models for size reduction:

  • Ball mill/Rod mill unit
As the crusher model which is already in the SolidSim unit model library the ball mill model is based on Bond's law. For the ball mill the Bond Work Index is corrected by five efficiency factors considering the influence of open circuit milling, dry milling, the mill diameter, the inlet particle size and the size reduction ratio.

  • Cone crusher unit
Based on the material size and the cone crusher settings a breakage probability is calculated. The fragment size distribution can be described using breakage functions according to Vogel or Austin. The combination od both results in a breakage matrix describing the size reduction of the inlet material.
  • Jaw crusher unit
As for the cone crusher the breakage matrix describing the size reduction of the inlet material is calculated from the breakage probability and the breakage function. The breakage probability function here considers the machine settings of a jaw crusher while the same breakage functions can be used as for the cone crusher: Vogel or Austin.
  • Impact mill unit
The impact mill model has been derived as generalization of the SolidSim Hammer Mill model. The impact velocity is not obtained from hammer mill specific machine settings but defined by the user. Otherwise the same modeling approach is used. Using this model any milling due to impact can be described, e.g. a pin mill or jet mill.

All together the are of size reduction is now covered by the more general units Size-Reductions short-cut, Crusher and Impact Mill as well as the apparatus specific models for Cone Crusher, Jaw Crusher, Hammer Mill, Ball Mill/Rod Mill and Stirred Media Mill. All new models will be distributed with the regular SolidSim updates.

New disc separator unit released
Mittwoch, 22. Juni 2011 um 00:00 Uhr

A new SolidSim unit model for a disc separator (disc stack centrifuge) has been added to the model library. The model predicts the particle separation based on their terminal velocity within the centrifugal field. With this unit now three type of centrifuges are included in the model library: Disc separator, Pusher and Decanter.

Partial calculation of flowsheets
Montag, 30. Mai 2011 um 08:47 Uhr

Some of our users requested the possibility to calculate only parts (some unit operations) of large flowsheets. This is now possible by defining a manual calculation sequence that contains only the unit operations you want to be evaluated.

Persistence of unit results
Sonntag, 22. Mai 2011 um 13:58 Uhr

For new installations of SolidSim using the updated installation packages from our website the ‚results‘ page of the unit operations is now available without re-calculation when opening a saved simulation. This new feature will not be distributed through automated updates - otherwise we would have to update all unit operations at once. So if you require this feature please download an updated installation package an re-install SolidSim.

New compound properties available for custom stream properties definition
Mittwoch, 18. Mai 2011 um 10:42 Uhr

With the latest update of SolidSim new compound properties are available for the definition of custom stream properties. The molecular weight and the density of each compound can are now accessible and can be used used for the custom stream property definition. The new compound properties are shown with a 'molecule'-icon in the list of available stream properties on the custom stream parameter definition dialog.
